  • What’s Vintage? Nike Dunks
By on March 24th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Yassir Rais Creations is known for making provocative and thoughtful custom sneakers like the What’s Vintage? Nike Dunks. The designer posted these interesting sneakers at his Customsnkr.com blog linked here. The What’s Vintage? Nike Dunks were designed to challenge the established ideas of what makes a shoe vintage.

Instead of relying on a classic image, logo or color scheme, Yassir Rais used outside elements to make these sneakers look well-worn. The stitched material on the toe box may look like an old door mat but the pattern makes fun of the idea that shoes and clothing can hit shelves with manufactured wear and tear. The spotted laces contribute to the found-art concept of these custom Dunks, looking like a contribution from the family junk drawer that fits the theme in some perverse way.

Yassir Rais finished off the What’s Vintage? Nike Dunks with some fantastic fading from white to black at the middle panels. The designer wrote “What’s Vintage?” in black lettering along the heel to drive his point home. View More Photos/Info

  • Slayer x Vans Owens Hi – White + Black
By on March 24th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Like many other releases this year, the Vans Owen Hi is inspired by Nike classics. The outstanding concept of this design owes a lot to the Air Jordan, but it’s not just an imitation. The vigorous spirit of the designers is evident in the color choices, and style of this new pair.

We really like the subtle touches of red that give a hint of the great potential that is hidden behind the mask of humility in this shoe. The design, as you can see with your own eyes, is clear and strong, and such a lack of pretense can always be mistaken for simplicity and lack of imagination. The design erases this possibility with the fiery touch of red on the stitchings of the heel, and the top.

We believe that this pair has great potential in all kinds of cicumstances due to the versatility, and the clarity of its style. A fitting adition to a venerable line of classics, it will not disappoint you. Via dailydrop.com

  • Stussy x Undefeated x realmad HECTIC ‘Full Metallic Jacket’ – New Balance MT580
By on March 24th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Royally hot and extravagantly conceived, there are few shoes like these anywhere in the world nowadays. Of course extravagance and flashy excess is doomed to look ridiculous on the ordinary, but Realmad HECTIC…can that really be ordinary?

The realmad guys have created a massively boisterous and outrageously extraordinary pair for their fans in this atractive creation. We would not expect anyone to be convinced by our exclamations, but anyone with doubt is sure to change his mind when  he can check these out with his own eyes.

We cannot read into the mind of the designers, but we know that they had something realmad in mind, and that in an wondefully cool way too. Stay tuned for updates. View More Photos/Info

  • Blue and Purple Splatter Air Force Ones
By on March 22nd, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Fresh and Fly Customz turned some down time into a simple but stunning pair of customs with the Blue and Purple Splatter Air Force Ones. These custom Air Force Ones may only use a trio of colors but Fresh and Fly wove these colors into sneaker art. I found these photos at the Fresh and Fly Customsnkr.com blog linked here.

Fresh and Fly used an electric blue paint for the heel and toe panels. The designer gradually turned the blue into purple using a splatter effect from the toe box to the middle panel. I like that Fresh and Fly kept the front side of the middle panel a bit messy while creating a straight line between blue and purple in the rear.

The Blue and Purple Splatter AF1s would be nothing without the designer’s use of silver paint. The toe box, Nike swoosh and heel tag are painted silver in stark contrast to the bright blue and purple hues elsewhere on these sneakers. While Fresh and Fly Customz may have dismissed these customs as side projects, I think the Blue and Purple Splatter Air Force Ones look as fantastic as projects made to View More Photos/Info

  • Air Jordan 1 Do the Right Thing Pack – Metallic Red
By on March 22nd, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Luxurious, sparkly, and hot, this Air Jordan which will be released in July is an excellent statement of mission from the wonderful people at Nike. They want to bring us the best footwear with the best style and design. And with creations like this, it’s hard to see them fail.

The white pebbled leather, on which the pearlized red accents are applied give this Nike the air of a luxury item with as much shine and polish as would fit the feet of kings. The yelllow, red, blue, black stitching at the top is a really nice addition that hints back to the fantastic early days of Air Jordan. And the overall design is one of rare perfection from Nike.

We love this one, and we believe you’d love it too. There’s so much that can be said about the details of this pair, but we suspect you will see enough in the pictures to reach an easy conclusion. Catch it if you can. Via Weeklydrop.
