Mateo Acrylics treated the character Cyclops from X-Men with great respect when creating the Cyclops Origins Nike Dunks. These custom Dunks focused on Cyclops due to the artist’s desire to add lights as a secondary feature. The designer entered the Cyclops Origins Dunks into the 2009 Clash of the Customizers linked here and defeated Deuce-Tray in a first-round matchup.

The Cyclops portrayed on the right heel is from X-Men #1 published in September 1963 and comes complete with blue hood and old-school X symbol. The left shoe features the more nuanced (and muscular) Cyclops from the most recent editions of X-Men. The interior sides are painted blue and yellow in honor of the superhero team’s standard uniform.

Mateo Acrylics completed the Cyclops Origins Nike Dunks with two red lights inserted behind the character’s visor. The lights come alive when the lights go out, showing Cyclops charging his ruby-red visor for the next shot. The designer gets a respite in the second round as View More Photos/Info

As far as Brand Jordan sneakers go, we think this one is quite alright, but that may be mostly due to the fact that the Jordan True Flight looks so much like the Air Jordan 7.This one features a predominantly white colorway with orange and black accents, and will be released in kids and womens sizes.

Mizzee Custom Kicks reached the second round of the 2009 Clash of the Customizers with the Futurama Nike Dunks. Mizzee defeated King of Sneakers by a sound margin by playing to the cult following for Matt Groening’s Futurama. I found these photos at the 2009 Clash of the Customizers website linked here.

The Futurama Nike Dunks start with fan favorite Bender floating through the infinite darkness of space on the left shoe. The right exterior shows Fry riding a space scooter as he runs away from an armada of powerful brains. Mizzee did an outstanding job with the background imagery including a swirling nebula on the right toe and a bright star on the left toe. The interior sides show the expanse of outer space with stars, galaxies and planets to put Fry and Bender’s exploits into context.

I wrote last December (link here) about the Dreamscape Nike Dunks created by Diversitile Custom Clothing. Diversitile was overwhelmed by emails from custom sneaker fans who wanted to get their hands on another version of the Dreamscape Dunks. The Dreamscape Nike Dunks 2.0 were posted this week at the Customsnkr.com blog linked here.

The base color on the Dreamscape Nike Dunks 2.0 is orange but Diversitile went wild with a variety of other colors. The essence of the original Dreamscapes was the swirl of colors that bedazzled the viewer. Diversitile pumped up the volume in terms of his color palette by using brighter and clearer reds, blues and yellows on these customs. The designer kept the black toe box and middle panel as well as the white Nike swoosh for a little respite from the visual explosion.

Diversitile added a little surprise to the sophomore versions of the Dreamscape Dunks with a glow-in-the-dark heel. As the lights go down, the Dreamscape Dunks evolve from a jungle of colors to a more delicate blend of greens and blues around the View More Photos/Info
