Archangel Customs’ Survival of the Illest SneakerBy SneakerFreak on January 26th, 2008 | No Comments
The custom sneakers shown above are an example of a design concept gone wrong. This project by Archangel Customs is called the Survival of the Illest and attempts to fuse elements of urban survival onto a shoe. The mess of colors from heel to toe is an effort to evoke feelings of alley walls covered in graffiti. There are plenty of custom designs that use the graffiti concept in a more artful way.
My biggest pet peeve is the bullet casings on the left heel and the gun tag on the right shoe. The casings are practical because they act as a lighter when separated from the shoe. The gun tag is a keychain and bottle opener that can be kept on the shoe for easy retrieval. I am not a big fan of the use of guns and bullets as a method of evoking street survival but the larger problem is that they add nothing to the aesthetic value of the shoe. These kicks should go back in the lab for a bit of work.

PUMA “Sportie LA” CaliBy SneakerFreak on January 26th, 2008 | No Comments
Another shoe in the
Puma California series is rolling out. For this edition of the Cali, Puma teamed up with one of the staple sneaker spots of Los Angeles, Sportie LA.The Sportie LA Cali has a simple and classic feel with a black and gold colorway. The back panel is solid gold layered underneath a black mesh. The insole and outsole both bare a montage of female silhouettes in a black, white and gold camo pattern.
The shoe is limited to 150 pairs and available exclusively at the Sportie LA Vault (7753 Melrose Avenue) on February 1st.
Also keep an eye out for the “Sportie LA Cali” billboard on Melrose St.
The other two shoes in the series are the
Puma “Shoe Biz” Cali, repping San Francisco and theAdidas Flavor of the Month Series – Pro Model Vintage (VIN)By SneakerFreak on January 26th, 2008 | No CommentsThis purple suede sneaker is part of the Adidas Flavor of the Month series.
The Pro Model Vintage (VIN) come in a collector’s box and features various logos on the suede. On one side, symbols representing peace and love (such as the peace sign, hearts, etc) are embossed in blue. On the other side, symbols representing war and chaos (such as tanks, guns, etc) are embossed in red.The two-tone laces are in that same blue and red. The two faces of man on the heel of the shoes is supposed to symbolize the two sides – good (love/peace) and evil (war/chaos).
Though this shoe isn’t like your typical Adidas sneaker, I really like the look for a change of pace. They are a fun, funky style you can wear on the weekends.
You can get these right now at select Adidas retailers. I found them at
We Sold Out for 130.00 euros (about $190 USD). Nike AM 90 Quickstrike Carnival EditionBy SneakerFreak on January 26th, 2008 | No CommentsNike AM 90 Quickstrike Carnival Edition should be available at Hangtime. The Carnival Edition means that there would be an air of carnival about the shoe. It is supposed to be cheerful, bright, and having a mood of festival.
The toe box is made of blue woven material and the shoe laces complement this blue area. The laces are in blue-black plaid and are pretty unique. Most shoe laces do not get this much attention. I like this plaid pattern as it looks very good. It is eye catching against the background colors of the shoe.
The shoe lace region, Nike swoosh and backstab are made from leather. The machine thread for each panel has different colors. This helps to outline the panels and contribute to the design. The backstab has a piece of black leather, with the Nike Air logo. The mid-sole is made of white patent leather and bears the Air Max logo.
The inner and outer soles have the beautiful mosaic patterns. It is a luxury to have the inner sole nicely designed. The material for the inner sole is made from thick, woven fabric and comfortable for the feet. The outer sole has transparent studs, which cover over the mosaic pattern and form the tread work of the bottom most sole.
