  • Under Construction Nike Dunks
By on September 20th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

Designer Yassir Rais showed off his latest custom Dunks at the Customsnkr.com blog post linked here. Rais is a relatively new artist who created his first pair of customs at the beginning of 2008. His “Under Construction” Nike Dunks are pretty impressive for a designer with a few projects under his belt.

The bottom half of the Dunks feature a brick-and-mortar design while the top half is a gray concrete wall. While Rais may have been creating a simple pair of custom sneakers, the symbolism is quite clear. The designer’s skills are being built slowly like the brick wall. Yassir Rais is showing us that he has great self-awareness about his growing skills as a custom artist through the mixture of a unfinished brick wall with a cracked concrete surface.

Rais says these Dunks are available for sale; if you are interested, you can contact the designer at [email protected]. The “Under Construction” Dunks look great and I plan on writing up the rest of his collection soon to showcase this rising star in the world of custom sneakers.

Nike LeBron Zoom Ambassador - #1

LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers is arguably the most talented basketball player on the planet. Nike has begun to really market LeBron more and more and this new line of LeBron Zoom Ambassador kicks is just further evidence.

Featured in these pictures are four different colorways for the Zoom Ambassadors. The first is a nice white, black and gray mockup. A second colorway features an all black look. The third make-up offers a simplified white and black colorway, while a white and maroon Cavaliers colorway is the fourth version. The Zoom technology means these shoes don’t just look good, they perform well too. Look for these shoes on Lebron’s feet and on the shelves of your local Nike retailer. • Nike Jordan Spizike – Citron/Purple colorway
By on September 19th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

The Nike Jordan Spizike in Citron/Purple colorway will be released in Europe in the month of December. It may be released in other places but we have to wait for the information on this. The toe cap is iconic because it has patent leather that is shiny, over which, the leather with citron yellow pattern is attached. It is like a double toe cap. The midsole for the toe cap rises over the cap and protects it. The patent leather covers the remaining portion of the midsole.

The toe box is black suede. The midsection has a mesh window and the rest of the segment is covered by accents. There is a triangle shaped shoe strap coming up from the heel. The side of the heel has a triangular shaped leather accent in citron yellow details. The top of the shoe lace has a transparent lace lock. The tongue has a lace lock with the figure of Air Jordan. The tip of the tongue is designed with two square holes. The outsole has a core in purple and its treads are in concentric circles. The background of the outsole is in citron yellow. This shoe looks great with all its interesting features.

  • Zoo York Custom Shaqs
By on September 19th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

I have written quite a bit about Sneakers by Sean lately but I think I found his best pair of customs yet. While I am not a big fan of Shaqs (the designer didn’t identify these shoes but they look a lot like some of his other Shaq customs), he was able to turn a substandard shoe into a piece of art. His Zoo York customs were found on the Sneakers by Sean Customsnkr.com blog linked here.

Sneakers by Sean took the Zoo York theme used by skateboarders and graffiti artists since the 1970s to a whole new level. His Zoo York customs feature a graffiti representation of the New York City skyline painted in black and white. The twilight landscape that the designer used was based on a Zoo York hat seen in both pictures.

These Zoo York customs may not be flashy but they get to the point. Sneakers by Sean is celebrating one of the busiest cities in the world in a state of slumber with a night sky overhead. The quiet beauty of the Zoo York skyline is recreated accurately by Sneakers by Sean. You can say what you want about the choice of shoes but it is difficult to say that the designer is bringing anything but his best with these shoes.
