  • Rage Against the Machine Nike Cortez
By on November 15th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

Flydea was tasked with turning a pair of worn white/black Nike Cortez into an homage to Rage Against the Machine. The designer’s sophomore effort at sneaker art is well-designed and shows greater maturity than Flydea’s experience would indicate. These custom Nikes were found at Flydea’s latest NikeTalk post linked

The client asked Flydea to draw images of guitarist Tom Morello and singer Zach De La Rocha on his Nikes. Flydea responded by recreating both musicians in black, red and white on the outsides of the shoes. The left shoe shows Morello resting between songs while the right shoe has Zach with his fist in the air.

Flydea applied his white cursive name to the black heel along with the blood red fist used as Rage Against the Machine’s logo. The designer has surmounted the difficult task of meeting his customer’s needs while letting his unique style shine through. As someone who liked Rage Against the Machine in high school, I can appreciate the mixture of art and political activism in the group’s music. I think Flydea’s Nike Cortez customs capture the essence and the look of Rage Against the Machine. You can reach Flydea for your own customs at [email protected].

  • Nike Air Force 1 – Black/Full Gum Bottom
By on November 14th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

    Source of Image: here.

This Nike Air Force 1 has a black colorway and is an original, classic sneaker. The black color is a popular color during winter and you can expect supplies to be short. This Air Force 1 black colorway has a full gum sole. The midsole is gum and so is the outsole too. This shoe will be released for sale on Nov. 28. One pair sells for $88.

The toe box has widely spaced holes. The mudguard surrounds the toe box. There is a lace lock on the first pair of shoe laces. Black shoe laces look great with the shoe. The midsection is subtle, with a couple of perforations near the midsole. The heel has a large segment. The Nike swoosh runs over the heel and midsection. The inner lining is of meshed material. The midsole is blacked colored gum, while the outsole is brown colored gum sole. The outsole is turned up at the toes to display the fine treads.

This shoe looks clean because of the standard use of a uniform color. This shoe is ideal for a wide variety of uses. It carries the quiet, elegant look. I would use this as a dress shoe for formal or informal functions.

  • Tazmanian Devil Air Force Ones
By on November 14th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

Hektik Kicks decided to take a bare bones approach to the Tazmanian Devil on his latest pair of Nike Air Force Ones. These custom Forces start with a simple white/purple colorway that allows the outline of the Tazmanian Devil to stand out. I found the Tazmanian Devil Air Force Ones at Hektik’s Customsnkr.com blog linked here.

The designer captured the essence of the Tazmanian Devil in two outlines drawn with thin black paint. Both images appear on the outside of the shoe and show Taz wagging his tongue while heading into a berserker rage. The inside of both shoes is left empty to make the light silver swoosh stand out.

My biggest problem with the Tazmanian Devil Air Force Ones is that the main character is not filled in with color. While the purple/white colorway would not work with Taz’s brown tones, I am left wanting more as I look at Hektik’s great Taz sketches. Even with this minor criticism, I cannot help but be impressed by Hektik’s flawless work and representation of Taz.

These two colorways of the Creative Recreation Kaplan feature perforated suede in a very sophisticated design. The graphite grey version has purple accents, while the white pair has contrasting graphite accents.

  • Nike SB Dunk High “Heavens Gate” Sample
By on November 14th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

The buzz surrounding this Nike SB started Spring of last year, when some catalog images were leaked to the public. People immediately fell in love with the simplistic colorway. Black leather upper with purple around the eye stays and heel. The white swoosh and midsole provide a more clean feeling. The Heavens Gate Dunks were influenced after a 1997 incident in San Diego California. 38 members of the cult were found dead all wearing the same clothes and shoes, a new pair of Nikes. Hows that for inspiration?
