  • Kente Cloth Air Force Ones
By on January 10th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Stand Out Soles created these custom Air Force Ones without providing his own model name. I was lucky enough to read the comments of one of the designer’s many fans who said that the pattern looks similar to kente cloth. Kente cloth is a multi-colored and patterned cloth that originates from Ghana. The Kente Cloth Air Force Ones look like the real thing without trampling on the symbolism of the ancient weaving style.

The front of the toe box and the tongue are painted brown to match the small spaces between patterns on the rest of the shoe. While the patterns can be difficult to see in the photos below, it is clear that Stand Out Soles used yellow, olive green and other colors for a mosaic of earthy tones. The heel and the Velcro wrap on the collar are painted yellow to match one of the dominant colors in this kente cloth pattern.

You can check out more work from Stand Out Soles at the Facebook page linked here. The aforementioned fan of the designer was right in citing how good these Air Force Ones would look with kente cloth. I think that Stand Out Soles did a terrific job getting the detailed patterns onto such a small canvas, demonstrating that painting on a sneaker is a true art.

  • Nike Air Force 1 2009 All-Star by DJ Clark Kent
By on January 10th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

DJ Clark Kent and Nike have collaborated to design the Air Force One 2009 All Star. This year’s NBA All-Star festival activities will be held in Phoenix, Arizona. Some brands of shoes are designing exclusive sneakers for the NBA All-Star Game.

This sneaker shows the strong influence of Phoenix. It uses the colors of the Phoenix Suns. The shoe upper is multi-textured. It uses nubuck leather that has the color of a desert tan. The toe box and side panels have a micro-perf texture. The number “09” is embroidered to date this shoe.

The segment at the heel is purple, one of the colors of the Suns. The Nike swoosh is yellow. The yellow accent is also found in the piping bordering the side panels. The Nike logo tag is found on the tongue. The collar at the ankle has an orange rim. The orange continues into the inner lining of the shoe. The midsole is leather wrapped. DJ Clark Kent used a gum outsole. It is a great looking shoe.

There are three sets of shoe laces for this shoe. This All Star Air Force 1 shoe will be released in mid February. (Images)

  • Nike Sportswear Air Max 90 – April Releases
By on January 9th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

These upcoming Sportswear Air Max 90 follows a color blocking pattern scheme seen a lot on recent Air Max 90s such as the tonal pack 90s or the latest women’s releases. But unlike those releases, this set of Air Max 90s features a gradient pattern on the mesh near the upper ankle. The gradient starts off dark the same color as the swoosh and fadesinto white as it reaches the back heel tab. In addition to the gradient, both feature a two-toned midsole.

If the color ways are hard to choose from maybe the materials will help you pick a winner. The black on white pair are fully leather with a perforated toebox. The gradient on them fade from black to white and the unit around the air bubble and the bubble itself is also black. The green on grey pair are leather with a ‘honeycombed’ mesh toebox. So the gradient pattern on them goes from green to white. The unit around the air bubble is grey while the air bubble is green. Both of these will drop on April 1st. Via:SoleBlvd

    Adidas Americana Lo - White-Red-Blue - #1

These Adidas Americana Lo sneakers have a colorway that fits perfectly with the name of the shoe. Using red, white and blue, you can rock these kicks and show your national pride. The Americana Lo is part of the 60th Anniversary celebration of Adidas Originals. These originals releases feature the special insole which reads “60 Years of Soles and Stripes”.

While most of the shoe is white, two of the Adidas stripes are blue and the other one is red. The Adidas Americana logo on the tongue is done in a white on blue color scheme. Multiple textures are used throughout the shoe so that the use of white doesn’t become too bland. If you want to cop a pair, set aside about $136 USD and pick them up at Colette.
