Trust Nike to push the limits when it comes to innovative footwear and trust them too to go into a marketing blitz with some of the things they say and do bordering on the hilarious. The Hypervenom has been designed after the company took detailed feedback from big-name footballers such as Neymar and Wayne Rooney. That feedback has been used to create this sneaker that aims to help forwards take on increasingly agile defenders and create space in the penalty area.
The upper on the sneakers makes use of NIKESKIN system, which consists of mesh covered with thin polyurethane film and a coating of Nike All Conditions Control technology (ACC) so that ball control remains good in both dry and wet conditions.
Nike Football Design Director Denis Dekovic states “Mesh delivers an amazing level of comfort and feel. The athletes asked us to deliver a boot that gets as close as possible to the feeling of playing barefoot,” “Mesh takes us a step closer to doing that and the All Conditions Control finish keeps the mesh dry.”
Neymar said “Help me make space more often and more quickly. I want a boot that helps enhance my agility and gives me the space to get my shot off before I’m closed down.”
Phil McCartney, VP Nike Football, Footwear said “Neymar’s input was invaluable. He had been wearing the Mercurial Vapor IX boot, a pure speed product designed to help athletes look and find space to beat a man. The Hypervenom focuses on creating the space in order to put the ball in the net. It’s a small but important nuance,”.
A shoe that can help you create space? Really? Sorry, I think this is totally on the skills of the football player. Stretches credulity.
