Kanye West has dominated the media for the past few weeks. After rocking the new, all-red colorway of the Nike Air Yeezy II, and dropping his much anticipated Yeezus album, it’s safe to say he will be the topic of conversation for a little while longer. In this installment of Sneaker Nicknames Explained, we discuss the reasoning behind some of the names of Kanye’s more popular sneakers. The Vans OTW Bedford “Tribes” is available now for $80 and is a grey canvas creation with matching laces threaded through metal eyelets. These sit on a thick white vulcanized midsole. The waffle outsole is teal-colored, as is the inner lining sporting tribal prints that give this mid-top its name. Tongue and heel labeling tells you it’s an OTW product.

The metal eyelets, too, have OTW branding engraved on them. Take a look at the images; what’s your take? Grey and teal make a cool pair.

The Nike Air Footscape Woven Chukka stays strange but swaggy, taking on a honeycomb upper on a “Deep Smoke” makeup. The charcoal color covers the upper, accented by melon tint hits on the woven portion and a blotchy mint tone on the Nike Free midsole. Chicago shades pop up on the adidas Crazyquick. A Black/Red-White colorway bares that of the Bulls, sporting the main hues in gradient fashion on the upper and toe box. White branding breaks up the predominantly black TECHFIT base, with red running wild on the toe box and PUREMOTION sole. Look for the adidas Crazyquick Black/Red-White to release on July 1st at adidas.

In the summer of 1993, Michael Jordan capped off his first three-peat by lifting the Chicago Bulls over the Phoenix Suns. On his feet were the Air Jordan 8 “Playoffs”, a black and red take on the strapped sneakers. Twenty years later, the shoes are scheduled to return in original styling. Look for the Air Jordan 8 “Playoffs” to release at select Jordan Brand accounts on June 29th.

With a major release seemingly every weekend, US sneaker consumers don’t have much to complain about in regard to access or options. Sure, shoes can still be hard to get, but for the most part everything is, at one point or another, available here. Well, almost everything. Nike Air Max Plus

By now we probably sound like a broken record, but hey, we really want the Nike Air Max Plus to retro Stateside. The shoes have circulated in European Foot Lockers for seasons, evolving in colorway and composition. To no surprise, we’d just like to see Nike keep it OG and launch the “Hyper Blue” and “Tiger” colorways around here. Absence has definitely made the heart grow fonder on the famed Tuned Airs.
