After a teaser and brief reveal, we finally get a full look at the Sole Classics x Vans Vault Era “Carmen”, and the story behind it. Based on the story of mythical Ohio High School football legend Jack “Ice” Henderson, the “Carmen” Era features a litany of tributes to the story and the state of Ohio. Before being blinded in both eyes by a violent collision, Henderson was known for his ice white cleats. While recovering in the hospital, Henderson met a woman named Carmen who told him “Don’t quit”. He returned to the football field, ran a 99-yard touchdown, and continued to run to find that mysterious, encouraging voice in Cleveland. Later that year, Henderson’s golden brown stained cleats were found with on the back of Lake Eerie. In honor, the Sole Classics x Vans Vault Era “Carmen” feature that same golden stain, which is also said to be the inspiration for the state license plate in 1996. Blue laces are also inspired by the late-‘90s license plate. Football leather covers the heel tab, and a Carmen-inspired quote is stitched in the right insole. This collaborative sneaker will be available in store at Sole Classics in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, May 25, and limited quantities will release online at Kingsrowe.com late that day.
