Rapper Lupe Fiasco takes some time off creating music and gets down to creating cool sneakers that sport his take on tribal prints. The Advocate’s signature Stovepipe colorway of Vans OTW is now available.

There’s a lot of inspiration that is evident here; from the urban culture of the 90s to prints that evoke visions of African and Native American designs. A canvas tongue is the textile addition to this silhouette which otherwise is an all-leather affair. The splashes of color are on the tongue and the outsole. It’s a classy mid cut and the Native Tongue is an apt moniker for this sneaker. Kicks available now along with a drawstring backpack constructed of sturdy canvas and carrying the same native prints as the tongue.

The small town of Newtown, Connecticut was startled yesterday morning when a heavily armed man walked into Sandy Hook Elementary and opened fire, ultimately killing 26 people with 20 of them being children. The saddening news deeply touched many in the tight-knit community but also hit home with many across the nation.

The Newtown, CT victims were recognized all over the NBA, as many arenas took part in a moment of silence prior to the games; however, Kevin Durant took his recognition a step further. In remembrance of the late victims, Durant honored the children by writing “Newtown, CT” on his “Home” Nike KD Vs for last night’s Sacramento vs. OKC game. The script, seen right under the swoosh, was written on both shoes. This is a class act by Kevin Durant and reminds us of Dwyane Wade and LeBron James’ similar gesture last season following the death of Trayvon Martin. The Nike Air Force 1 Downtown “Python” carries an all-over python skin print and is a cool casual training sneaker, if you’re looking for one. This is as good as any or maybe better given the significance sneaker lovers attach to occasions and occasions don’t come bigger than the 30th anniversary of the AF1.

There’s leather down the eyelets through which waxed tonal laces with some white thread their way. Branding appears in the form of the Swoosh and the debossed logo on the heel patch. These are limited edition pairs priced at around £135.00. Take a look at the images, what’s your take on this. Quirky yet elegant is how I see them.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Derrick Williams is making a strong case for Kicks On Court Champion because of the variety he brings to the hardwood on a nightly basis. Following his debut of the “Galaxy” Nike Zoom Rookie about two weeks ago, he stands alone as today’s Kicks On Court headline by bringing out an extremely rare Jordan to the court. Specifically, Williams wore the Air Jordan XX3 “Motorsports” in last night’s win against the Dallas Mavericks. This shoe, which released as a quickstrike alongside the “UNC” and “Bulls” XX3s, is inspired by MJ’s love for motorsports and features the same color scheme that the Jordan Suzuki Motorsports Team uses. Also, Ricky Rubio returned in one of the hottest adidas sneakers out right now and Miami’s superstars honored the Newtown, Connecticut victims with their shoes last night.
