Pippen’s symbol prompts on the heel and on the tongue. Finally, a speed lacing system keeps a good closure with a friendly tongue pull tab.

The upcoming Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids shoes got more responses than it asked for.  Adidas posted the picture of the mid-tops on its Facebook page and ignited a public uproar due to its new bright orange shackles that are supposed to be worn around the wearer’s ankle.

The plastic shackles are viewed by most Facebook commenters as modern-day remembrance of the shackles that are used to be worn by slaves back in the slavery days.

Adidas attempted to explain the shackles in its first press release:

“The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery. Jeremy Scott is renowned as a designer whose style is quirky and lighthearted … Any suggestion that this is linked to slavery is untruthful.”

The explanation didn’t help much and only created more controversy.  Adidas responded to the pressure by withdrawing plans for the sneakers and released a second statement regarding the Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids.

“Since the shoe debuted on our Facebook page ahead of its market release in August, Adidas has received both favorable and critical feedback. We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace.”
