Today, we get a look at the New Balance WL301BLL Blue/White, an old-school silhouette that is both attractive yet still comfortable. This simplistic colorway shown today makes use of an all blue nylon and suede upper with secondary tones of white and gum on the laces, tongue, inner liner, midsole and outsole. Take a trip to Youtube and check out your favorite rap videos from 98-04. You’ll see a lot of jewelry, you’ll see a lot of jerseys, but mostly you’ll see a lot of Timbs. Can you imagine a group today making a song about their LeBrons or their Kamikazes (oh, wait)? A scary thought, yes, but back in 1986 Run DMC played it perfectly. The first single off Raising Hell heard the Hollis crew showing their stripes for the sneakers they loved. Lacing the NBA’s top ten players at one point and holding throne in the emerging hip-hop scene, adidas was THE brand of the era. Break-dancers and MCs swore by them, and like that, the box-fresh culture was born. While comparing the brashness of 80′s rap to today is like comparing Johnny Carson to South Park, “My Adidas” packed a hard sound for the time and brought bass to television sets nationwide. Today, we take part in the tribute to the pioneers on the radio and on the foot.

Sure, we gave the 11 its props today, but we didn’t forget about Veteran’s Day. For this special installment of My 5, we feature NK’s own and US Navy vet LaMarcus Martin. Over his ten years in the Naval services, his work ranged from IT specialization to training military police with firearms. These days he’s a staple of the Nice Kicks shop specializing in logistics and customer satisfaction and also a favorite around the NK office thanks to his sense of humor and knack for compliments. Mature enough to respect the classics but not afraid to dare to be different, LaMarcus’s current rotation is varied with a sense of season. Find out what our vet is rocking in autumn.

Nike Air Foamposite One "Dark Neon Royal"

LaMarcus: I had the Foamposites when they first dropped in ‘97 and have been a big fan ever since. It’s just a beautiful shoe to look at. Usually my favorite color is red but the neon blue is amazing. I definitely keep that shoe in my rotation all seasons, no matter if it’s cold, raining, sleet, snow…I try to have a couple pairs on deck. With the Foamposites I just like to have fun with it or dress it down. Definitely scooping up the “Metallic Reds”.

Jordan Brand gets in on the heavy release weekend with their offering of the Air Jordan 1 KO Holiday 2011 Lineup ($130 each). Three colorways will hit retailers tomorrow: Light Graphite/Black-Varsity Red, Dark Cinder/Black-Varsity Red and Black/Anthracite-Varsity Red. Each pair owns a monochromatic upper and a red Jumpman patch on the tongue. Both, the “Dark Cinder” and “Light Graphite” pairs, feature a white midsole and white laces, while the black pair is finished with a black outsole and black laces. Should Jordan Brand release the luxurious Air Jordan 1 KO on a more consistent basis?
