“Fergalicious definition make them boys go loco,” goes the song Fergalicious sung by Fergie of the band Black Eyed Peas. And loco people go when they see her clothes, bags, and shoes. They’re glam rock to the core.
Fergie, or Stacy Ann Ferguson, is an American singer-songwriter, rapper, fashion designer, dancer, and actress. She first started out doing voice-overs at the age of 9 as the cartoon voice of Sally Brown, the famous Charlie Brown’s little sister. Also a member of the Fox children’s television series Kids Incorporated with Jennifer Love Hewitt in 1984 to 1987, she became part of a music group with her other co-star Stefanie Ridel and her friend Renee Sandstrom called Wild Orchid in 1992. They then hosted the Fox Family’s Saturday morning show Great Pretenders, which featured kids lip-synching to the top hits of the week to compete for prizes. Stacy Ferguson left the group in 2002 to join the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas.
As the only female in the group, Fergie naturally became the focus of everyone’s attention. She started to get noticed for the sexy clothes she chose that were put together in rather original ways. Not run-of-the-mill provocative, her look was definitely hot and fans started to copy the way she dressed. What was great about Fergie’s look was that people would take notice and make comments about what she wore. You either loved it or hated it, there was no middle ground with Fergie Ferg. She is confident, individual, sexy, and sassy all in one.
Now a fashion icon in her own right, Fergie is designing and selling shirts, bags, and shoes to women around the world. The Black Eyed Peas official website features body fitting t-shirts, baby tees, ultra-short shorts, zipped hoodies, and sweatshirts embellished with prints taken from Fergie’s solo and Black Eyed Peas albums. The non-apparel items available are buttons, keychains, numerous posters and collector’s item photos, and of course, her albums and videos.

In March 2007, Kipling North America partnered with the three-time Grammy winner to design two handbag collections for fall 2007 and summer of 2008. It was Fergie’s first try at designing handbags, with each collection having different vibes. It was also Kipling’s first celebrity designed line.
Kipling is headquartered in New York but their high quality carryalls are designed and developed in Antwerp, Belgium. In the US, Kipling North America is a division of VF Sportswear, Inc., which also carries the Nautica and John Varvatos brands.

“Fergie has become a fashion icon in her own right and inspires women across the world – whether she’s singing on tour or walking the red carpet,” said Denise Seegal, President and CEO of VF Sportswear, Inc. “We’re proud to have the opportunity to partner with such an influential and stylish woman for the Kipling brand’s first celebrity-designed collection.”
The fall 2007 collection saw three highly different lines in modish silhouettes, bright colors, and graphic prints: The Dutchess, The Nice Scout, and The Naughty Scout. Her personal favorite was The Dutchess line, featuring bags in bright plaids with patent-leather trim, inspired by her Scottish background.
Nice Scout was the first collection released in September, all oozing rocker chick style with leather, mesh fabrics, metallic zippers and trimmings. Sparkly and loud, it’s exactly what you’d choose if you want to be noticed.
Naughty Scout was launched in October 2007 and had glam rock bags, featuring glittery metals, smoky slate backgrounds, bright pink colors and lots of lip prints. One fun feature was a little bag in a hot pink lip shape. Definitely a “glamorous” collection.
The Dutchess line was released in November in bright plaids of cobalt, amethyst and black. London Bridge, anyone?
The second, spring 2008 collection had a collection of totes, satchels, and duffels in popping patent leather, neon colors and bold prints that perfectly express Fergie’s exuberant style. The more classic shapes were perfect for summer travel, and shopping, too! More of oversized totes than teeny bags, this collection can stay with you from morning till night, and hold all your essentials in between.
Fergie at her shoe launch in Las Vegas
The success of her debut collections peaked in May 2008, which saw a partnership with Brown Shoe, this time to launch Fergie footwear for spring 2009. There will actually be three collections for the line – Classic Sass with timeless details and materials but a funky twist, Heavy Metal for that killer rocker glam style, and Per-suede’s glamorous, show-stopping suede shoes and boots. A self-confessed shoe lover herself, Fergie was really excited by this partnership and personally took a hand in perfecting the look of the sexy ankle boots, to-the-moment shooties, really sweet variations on the gladiator, strappy sandals, killer pumps, and cute kicks. The many variations and choices were to “change the feel of an outfit, and even change how a woman feels about herself.” Fergie has an answer to every mood – from confident to comfortable.
Fergie’s latest venture is a partnership with Avon Products Inc to develop a perfume that will debut in November 2010. She will work with developing the fragrance, packaging, name and campaign. Fergalicious, indeed.
