Japanese influence bound by both cultural and traditional aspects has been extended to the world’s biggest sneaker name, Nike. A couple of Far Eastern elements were implemented on the latest Nike Air Royalty Hi dubbed as “Kimono”, a term used for a Japanese traditional garment. By associating certain Japanese icons such as the koi carp, also called the Japanese carp, and Samurai, the military nobility of pre-industrial Japan, Nike has come up with one remarkable design.

The Kimono’s upper has cool leather toe box and midpanels including tongue and ankle while a koi carp scale-designed material appears on the heel, collar and part of the ankle. The yellow/orange/blue fish scale pattern gives a different aura to the shoe as the silvery Swoosh inspired by Samurai slashes along the side panel.

Nike branding are found on both tongue and ankle. White shoe laces pair up with the midsole whereas the majority of the upper and outsole make a great team.
