  • 2009 All-Star Weekend – Rookie Challenge Shoes
By on February 14th, 2009 | No Comments Comments
    2009 All-Star Weekend - Rookie Challenge Shoes - #1

Check out these kicks that were worn during the Rookie Challenge that had NBA rookies going up against NBA sophomores on Friday night. Although Kevin Durant’s MVP performance that included 46 points stole the show, many sneakerheads probably loved the kicks that they saw.

Most of the players in the game who are signed with Nike wore a Nike Huarache 2009. For the rookies, Huarache utilized an orange and purple colorway and said “Rookies” on it. The sophomores’ Huarache’s were similar added white to the equation and the shoes said “sophomores”. With many more events upcoming in the 2009 NBA All-Star Weekend, keep an eye on the kicks. • Barack Obama Nike Sellwoods
By on February 13th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Brandi “Sneaker Vixen” Kaye customized a pair of Nike Sellwoods ahead of President Barack Obama’s inauguration on January 20, 2009. Sneaker Vixen used a women’s size 8 Sellwood to pay homage to the incoming president. I found these photos on the Sneaker Vixen Facebook page linked here.

On the right toe box, the designer painted a portrait of the new president framed by “Barack Obama” and “44th” in black letters. The left toe box features the ubiquitous Obama campaign logo along with the date for Inauguration Day. As we move back from the toe box to the middle panel, we see the red, white and blue of the American flag displayed in creative fashion.

Sneaker Vixen used the heel for the most inspired bit of design on the Barack Obama Sellwoods. Employing the same black/off-white colorway from the toe box, the designer wrote out words like “Hope” and “Change” that represented Obama’s campaign promises. These shoes were available on eBay prior to the inauguration and moved quickly but you can contact Sneaker Vixen at [email protected] to find out more about her designs.

  • Vans Mt. Edition High – Satin Pack
By on February 13th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Turns out there is more to the Satin Pack, two more colorways actually. Vans surprises us with the two extremely bright color ways, especially considering the first colorway isn’t. Added to the Metallic Silver pair is a Scuba Blue and Butercup Yellow pair to the complete this pack. Unlike the silver pair, which feature a decorative interior lining, the blue and yellow pairs feature a solid sockliner the exact color of their exterior. Considering bright colors are the latest rage, this pack might be exactly what needed to popularize the Mt. Edition High. Will the Half-Cab receive the same treatment? Guess we’ll have to wait and see. Now available at Essense.

  • Nike KD1 All Star
By on February 13th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

The Nike KD1 All Star will be worn by Kevin Durant. Durant will be at the All Star Weekend to participate in the Rookie vs Sophomore Challenge. Durant will wear a special All Star colorway of his signature sneaker with Nike. This Nike KD1 is his signature shoe. Durant has played well for the first half of the season and he is rewarded with this signature shoe. He is supposed to wear this pair of shoes when he plays for the Rookie vs Sophomore Challenge.

The shoe does not have a separate toe box. It is fused with the rest of the shoe upper. The bright blue shoe lace is a nice accent that stands out from the colorway. The black Nike swoosh merges with half the portion being black with speckled dots of orange. This matches the outsole, which is also black with specks of orange. The shoe has a slim streamline. The inner lining of the shoe is orange with black specks. The yellow colored strap at the back tab has a double black stripe and looks nice as a functional piece. The side of the collar has a small panel that carries the Durant’s initials, “KD”. (Images)
