  • RubiKicks Nike Santa Cruise
By on December 7th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

KickerBockerGlory Customs is a British designer who has begun creating custom sneakers recently. The designer’s portfolio features blasts of bright color on various Nike models. His latest work is a pair of custom Santa Cruises inspired by the Rubik’s cube. I found these photos at KickerBockerGlory’s website linked here.

The designer started with a Rubik’s Cube pattern on the toe box. This pattern begins to melt away into free-flowing streams of color ranging from blue to green. As the colorful wave progresses to the middle panel, KickerBockerGlory allowed the color to trail off in a few flame licks to all-white on the heel.

If you expected the heels to be completely devoid of color, the designer gives you a pleasant surprise. The heel tag has a spectrum of color starting with green at the top progressing through yellow, orange and red until blue pops up just above the outsole. KickerBockerGlory sells the RubiKicks Santa Cruises in men’s size 9 UK for upwards of $200 USD.

  • Cassette Playa x Nike Blazer Hi – orange/blue colorway
By on December 6th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

    here.

Cassette Playa and Nike Blazer Hi have collaborated together to create this design. Nike has 36 years of sports heritage and it’s old traditions have combined with the new Cassette Playa. Carri Mundane, based in UK, has worked on the traditional iconic Blazer and invented a remix of the old and new in this Cassette Playa style remix. This Cassette Playa Blazer will be available at the Nike Sportswear 1948 store at Bateman’s Row Shoreditch and some Nike Sportswear retailers.

The line of Cassette Playa Blazer was initially designed for Carri’s Spring/Summer 2008 “Future Primitive” runway show. The theme of the show was inspired by Carri’s concept of “urban Shamanism.” This term refers to Carri’s way of thinking.Carri has transferred her opinions into her style for the season. For the new season that is shown above, Carri has taken up an idea from Ancient Amazonian hunting rituals and adapted the idea to use for skaters in a post apocalyptic city.

This Cassette Playa used a minimalistic approach. Carri kept the look of the Blazer’s striking elongated swoosh centered on the shoe. The midsole is dark blue and blends well with the orange colored upper. The back tab at the heel is light blue. The overall look is sleek and sophisticated.

  • Say Goodnight Babs Air Max 90s
By on December 6th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

D@ Prince got a request from his boss to customize a pair of Air Max 90s based on a character from Tiny Toon Adventures. The designer used Babs Bunny, the counterpart to Buster Bunny, as his inspiration in these pink-dominated Air Maxes. I found these photos at D@ Prince’s latest Nike Talk post linked here.

The yellow/purple/pink colorway on the Say Goodnight Babs Air Max 90s comes from the fur, bow and shirt colors adorned by Babs. D@ Prince created some texture to the pink side panels, making these shoes more dynamic. The purple rhinestones on the tongue are fantastic touches for these custom Nikes. The word “Sass” written in yellow paint on the heel seems to say it all for Babs Bunny.

The words “Say Goodnight, Babs!” were uttered by Buster each episode with Babs responding, “Goodnight, Babs!” D@ Prince captures the playfulness and irreverence of the original cartoon in these sneakers. His use of different design elements like rhinestones and textured surfaces make these shoes more complex than they appear.
