  • Nike Air Force 1 “Kanye West 808s & Heartbreak” Custom
By on December 23rd, 2008 | No Comments Comments

Nike Air Force One has been given a customized look that is named “Kanye West 808s & Heartbreak.” This sneaker uses the Kanye West signature check suit, together with the Kaws artwork from West’s latest music album. This pair of Air Force 1 shoes was designed by Mache. Mache has customized the sneakers with unique ideas. One idea is about using Lego hearts originally done by Dee & Rocky. The Lego heart is on the tongue. The red accent is striking against the checks.

The check pattern needs careful placement. The different panels form a mosaic when attached together at the seams. This provides details for the shoe. Each section is attached at an angle that forms a bigger pattern. The Nike swoosh is given a totally new look with the colorful graphic print. This is coordinated with the heel’s segment. The two sections blend in well.

The shoe uses white to tone down its gaudy graphics and checks. White is a good idea for the lace, inner lining and midsole. The pair of lace locks completes the symmetry of the shoe. This is a great looking pair of kicks.

  • Lost Boys Nike Terminators
By on December 23rd, 2008 | No Comments Comments

Tim Lewis from Bespoke Sneaker Gallery was kind enough to send us a preview of his gallery’s latest project. Bespoke is creating the Lost Boys Terminator Package based on the 1987 movie The Lost Boys. These custom Nike Terminators are based on Kiefer Sutherland’s character David and represent the haunting look and nature of vampires accurately.

Lewis went for subtlety over gore while customizing these Terminators. Instead of gushing blood and dead bodies, these sneakers feature red bite marks on the collar and scratch marks near the toe. The pale white backdrop is indicative of the skin of the vampires in this movie.

Bespoke went with vintage Nike Terminators, first featured in 1985, to capture the 1980s look that was so much a part of The Lost Boys. This choice was very smart because it recognized the time and place in which that movie was popular. Stay tuned for the second half of the Lost Boys Terminator Package; if it is nearly as good as the first, I will be knocked off my feet.

  • GonZo Nike Dunks
    By on December 23rd, 2008 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

The seminal work from journalist Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, is a favorite muse for artists around the world. Flawless Victory showed off these hot new customs on the Nike Talk post linked here. The designer’s contribution to the collective celebration of Thompson’s work is interesting and well-crafted.

The GonZo Dunks highlight Thompson’s carefree use of drugs and resulting hallucinations in his work. The toe box features “gonzo” imagery including liquor bottles and needles that helped Thompson’s characters reach alternate realities. The middle panel is taken from the book cover with Thompson’s sun glasses interposed with black bats fluttering in the desert sky.

Flawless Victory turned a pair of black/orange Dunks to a masterpiece that accurately depicts Thompson’s journalistic style. The haunting imagery on the toe box and middle panel show that the gonzo journalist’s drug use was at times enlightening and frightening. Flawless Victory put an exclamation point on these shoes by adding Gonzo to the Nike tag on the tongue.
