  • Batman Custom Shaqs
By on September 14th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

The aftermath of The Dark Knight’s success has allowed a flurry of custom sneakers based on Batman, The Joker and Gotham City to reach the Internet. Sneakers by Sean took a more conceptual approach to the new Batman movie on this pair of custom Shaqs. These pictures were taken from the designer’s Customsnkr.com blog linked here.

While other designers took literal approaches to the images in the The Dark Knight, Sneakers by Sean took a much different approach to these Shaqs. The image of a black bat is placed on a golden toe box to show the signal sent into the night sky when Batman is needed. The back heel features a cloud of flying bats that symbolize the swift justice given out by Batman. Sneakers by Sean’s black/gold colorway is evocative of the crime fighter’s suit featuring a yellow utility belt.

I am a big fan of any sneaker that is well done while celebrating Batman. Sneakers by Sean took a more symbolic approach to the comic book hero than other designers but it is executed perfectly.

    Wu-Tang Clan x Fila Boots - #1

The Wu-Tang Clan had a big impact on rap and they also have put their stamp on the shoe scene with their yellow and black Dunk Highs being some of the most coveted shoes around. Now they have collaborated with Fila on a pair of boots, and I’m sure they will garnish some serious attention.

Using earth tones and strong construction, these all-weather boots are good for hiking in the outdoors as well as for city wear. Though people won’t be clamouring for these like the Dunks, they are definitely a cool pair of boots. The iconic Wu-Tang logo is evident on the side panel and heel, along with the CREAM acronym on the tongue. This collaboration is expected soon at Liquor, Women & Tears for ¥14,700 yen. • Nike SB Dunk Low Gore-Tex
By on September 13th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

The Nike SB Dunk Gore-Tex has a simple design. Its biggest promise is being a waterproof shoe. The Gore-Tex tag said that it is guaranteed to keep the wearer dry. I’m not sure if that has influenced the design but this simple style is welcomed nevertheless. Sneakers that are waterproof will be in high demand in autumn and winter.

The shoe’s colorway is in light grey. It has white as an accent. The toe box is plain and is surrounded by a high mudguard. The tongue is broad and allows a bigger expanse of shoe lace to be seen. There is a panel of leather that is attached from the base of the heel and this meets the collar around the ankle of the sneaker. The Nike swoosh is rather long as it stretched from the midsection and goes all the way to the heel of the shoe. The back tab has the Nike brand name and a small section of quilted leather below it. The midsole has two layers and is white on the upper layer and light grey on the lower layer. The inner lining of the shoe is white and completes the look nicely.

  • New York Giants Shaqs
By on September 13th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

Sneakers by Sean has produced some great tributes to New York City in recent months including a pair of New York Yankees Dunks I highlighted earlier this week. He also produced a pair of custom Shaqs in honor of Eli Manning, Michael Strahan and the rest of the New York Giants. These special Shaqs were found at the Customsnkr.com post linked here.

The shoes start out with a basic red/blue colorway to represent the Giants color scheme. Sneakers by Sean added the NY logo found on the team’s helmets on the toe boxes as well as middle panels. The designer also painted “XLII” on the heel to represent the numerals for last year’s Super Bowl.

While I am a Packers fan and I was disappointed in their loss to the Giants in the NFC Championship, I can get behind the New York Giants Shaqs. The team was a Cinderella story as the playoffs started and the simple touches on these Shaqs are appropriate for Tom Coughlin’s hard-nosed team.
