Blue and grey elephant print on a black fusion sneaker, are you kidding me? This colorway is straight sick. It’s kind of like those Air Jordan 12 Nubuck that was a website only limited edition a few years back, except that these are much tighter than the Air Jordan 12 Nubuck because it features the best parts of the Air Jordan 3. What’s good about these is that they’re not shiny with patent leather, it’s a subtle, soft black nubuck-ish feel but contrasted with a bright electric blue. OK, Kobe was crowned MVP this past year, he came up a bit short after an honorable effort in the Playoffs and Finals, but the new sneaker Nike has designed for him is sure to strike fear into the hearts of opponents like deadly venom. The Black Mamba is the deadliest snake on the planet. And, even though these snake sneaks are part of the Friendlies Pack, there ain’t nothin’ friendly about them… these kicks are mean! I have to say, with all the releases of the Hyperdunk from the McFly version to the Olympic PE versions, to this one; Nike hasn’t found a winning basketball shoe like this since the Huarache 2K4. This collection is the entire Nike Air Max 90 Current Artist Series Pack. These sneakers have been designed by Ben Drury, Kevin Lyons and Hito Yokoyama. This Pack will be sold at Overkill on Friday, August 8.

Since the write-ups for the orange and grey colorways have been posted, this description is for the black colorway.

This Nike Air Max 90 Current Artist Series sneaker is designed by Ben Drury. The toe box of the shoe looks like it is made up of thick, woven material that is black colored. There are reinforcements at the shoe lace region and these panels of leather are patterned with corrugated lines.

The tongue is black colored while the lace is white. This creates a stark contrast.The midsection of the shoe has a large panel of leather. Over this, the Nike swoosh is attached. This swoosh is in bright red. The heel has a panel of the thick woven material. The shoe’s inner lining has black and white checks.

The midsole is divided into two sections. The top portion is grey-black, while the lower portion is white. This repeats the theme of black and white, as found in the inner lining. The outsole has accents in red color. The Nike Air Max 90 has its technology in its air cushion, part of which can be seen in the window in the midsole.

This shoe looks unique. The toe box is deceptively simple. The main concentration of the details is in the midsection of the shoe. I like black colored sneakers as they offer flexibility in wardrobe matching.

Perhaps the biggest day in Chinese history has finally arrived. 8/8/08 Beijing Olympics. Here it is; there’s no denying it. To celebrate the most anticipated event of the year, Nike will release a special pack for the players who are participating in Team USA for the Olympics, the United We Rise Pack – 2008 Beijing Olympics. The shoes that will be in the pack include the Nike Zoom Soldier 2, the Nike Air Force 25 Low, Converse Wade Team Mid and the Nike Hyperdunk. All of the shoes feature a white upper with blue and red accents, true to the colors of the United States. The tattoo-style laser etchings in the shoes take inspiration from anything ranging from American culture, basketball, and the characteristics that make people rise above to the top. The tongue of every shoe in the pack has the United We Rise logo. The United We Rise Hyperdunks have already released today for $150. Don’t miss the other pairs. The Soldier 2s will retail for $150 and the AF25 for $100.

Custom designer Van has created the Air Force Ones posted above to support the Save Darfur Coalition. This organization has gather support from 130 organizations who provide humanitarian aid to Sudanese families while advocating for a resolution to the atrocities in Darfur. It is great to see Van turn a serious philanthropic effort into a fantastic pair of custom sneakers.

Van’s depiction of Sudanese children shows the bleak state of affairs in Sudan. The stark black/gray/white relief used on the two children is representative of the unsafe conditions for men, women and children who are leaving the region for surrounding nations. Van uses the green/white symbol for the Save Darfur Coalition as the background for the shoe’s heel. The importance of this cause is highlighted with the phrase “Faces of Genocide” printed along the front of the shoe.
